Uncontrolled barking is one of the most frustrating parts of dog ownership.
You (and your neighbors) may wonder why your dog seems to bark incessantly.
There are a couple of products that you may try to stop uncontrolled barking.
A citronella collar emits an unpleasant odor when your dog barks.
There is also an ultrasonic collar that will produce a sound audible only to your dog.
Be aware though, that these tools may result in anxious barking in some dogs.
While there are tools you can use, it is really best to get to the root of the problem.
Many dogs bark simply out of boredom.
Or lack of stimulation.
And they know that when they make a racket, they will get attention.
Even if it is only to be yelled at.
A great deal of barking issues can be solved by making sure your pooch has plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.
A minimum of two walks per day and at least one short (10-15 minute) training session.
Keep the training sessions short.
Any more than 15 minutes, and both you are your dog are bound to become frustrated.
Physical exercise will release excess energy but mental exercise can be just as tiring.
You may have a large yard for your dog to run around and play in, but that does not take the place of a daily walk and mini training session.
Treat the cause and not the symptom.
Make this a habit and you, your dog and your neighbors will all be much happier.
